Bathrooms

The past few weeks we have been talking to a lot of tradesmen.  Plumbers are first on the list.  The photo above is of the upstairs "wood room", the room right in front of the stairway.  Here we will be putting in a shower, toilet and sink.  You can see we are removing the boards on the wall to accommodate the plumbing vent.

Also we had to build a wall to enclose the shower.

We are putting in a second bath upstairs as well.  This one is in Thurston's bedroom.

We also had to build a wall here for the tub/shower enclosure.

Sink will be about where the level is leaning up against the wall.  Toilet to be located on the other side of the window.  We have torn out the small closet to give us a bit more room.

Old Photo

We are lucky to have another old photo found by cousin Dan.  This one shows the carriage house with the water tower.  Water for the household use was pumped up from the lowland and stored in this tower.  It appears that the men and women here were sawing lumber on a portable saw mill.

Here is a current shot taken from approximately the same place.

Windows

  t
The seven windows ordered six weeks ago have finally been delivered, so next step was get them in!

Above photos are of the kitchen and the below photo is of Aunt Ellen's room.  We installed these windows from the outside, therefore the molding has been taken off.

Aunt Ellen's room from the inside.  Looks good, not much different from the old windows in size.

Cement and Stairs

We are back to work on Pioneer House!  Below photo is from a couple weeks ago of the Carriage house floor just being finished up.  Formerly it had only a gravel floor and we thought cement would be a big improvement.

Here are the stairs going up into the full sized room above.  We had the joists reinforced to make the room above safe.

And here it the upstairs room!  We still need to put in a half wall or railing around the stairway opening.

A very nice space up here, lots of light with a large window on each end.

Below photo is showing the new foundation.  There is actually new concrete footings below the rocks you can see on the surface so as to keep the Carriage house looking original.

Lots of bulbs coming up everywhere!
